My laptop died! Oh the horror. One minute I was sitting there programming, and the next it was frozen up. I reset it, and it decided not to boot back up.
Anyway, so I’m without it for a few days while it’s being repaired, which means a few days of working from home! Of course, for me, working from home means working in the bedroom rather than the dining room office. But you get the idea.
Anyway, I’m a little bummed about it, but what can you do? Hopefully it’ll be back soon.
I think I have decided on a name for the kitten: Chloe! Partly a cool name, and partly an homage to Allison Mack, the actress who plays Chloe on Smallville. What do you guys think?

Man, does the Merced County library ever suck. I’m so disappointed. When I went to the Pensacola library, it was really hopping with activity, and had all kinds of resources. They were also all excited about having volunteers as well. When I asked about volunteering at this library, they said that the only volunteer position was for working in the used book store. I asked what about people who need help with the computer, they said “Oh, they have classes.” It just seemed really odd… They only had 9 computer for public use, too. Really crummy.
On the plus side, I did get to ride through town, and was able to take some pictures of Applegate Park. Here are 3 pictures I took of the rose garden, and merged into one “widescreen” image.

Anyway, I am going to try to find some other places to volunteer. There has to be some place I that actually WANTS some volunteer help.

I am at Starbucks, but I am about to go home… I totally wiped out on my bike ride over here, and tore up my elbow pretty badly. I’m so pissed at myself… I should have known better than to ride the bike after it had rained.
And I took a shower and got all prettied up “just in case”, then I end up with my whole right side covered in dirt and my elbow bleeding. Wow… I’m really dressed to impress now.

As you can see, the STILL unnamed kitty is adjusting well to the lifestyle of the programmer. Next thing you know she’ll be unable to find a date, and fall in love with the Simpsons.

Pictures of Kitty’s First Day!
Oh, and yes, the picture in the last entry really is the kitty, not just some clip art image.
I went to the mall this evening and actually played pinball! For those not familiar with “pinball”, it’s like a console game that uses a bunch of hardware to create a real 3d environment with a real-time rendered chrome sphere. Anyway, I was such a pinball wizard in high school. No more, though. I was horrible!

So, I adopted a kitten today. A co-worker of Lisa had a bunch to give away, so I decided I would go and pick one out. There were 3 left, and the first one I played with seemed terrified by me. Which, interestingly enough, is the expected reaction to me by a female. So, I narrowed it down to two, but the calico was just not that interested in the whole being adopted thing. So, I decided on the one shown. The kitten is currently hiding somewhere in the kitchen, apparently terrified of the whole life change thing. So we have that in common. Anyway, I figure I’ll give her some space for the next couple of days, and once she’s comfortable, start trying to engage her in activities and petting.
Of course, now we need a name for the kitty. So, e-mail me at this special address, and tell me what you think the name should be. If your suggestion is chosen, you win a fabulous prize!

Totally weird weather around here… yesterday it was in the low 50s and started hailing, and today it’s 65 degrees and clear.
The couple of days after Easter are a love/hate relationship. On the one hand, you get incredibly discounted Easter candy (especially Cadbury Creme Eggs, which are on sale for 4 for $0.75), but that also means that I have to wait another year for them! Just as well… they are evil!
I’m about halfway through my “every Simpsons episode ever” marathon… it’s been going on since last Friday. 305 episodes, which translates into about 100 hours of entertainment. Mmm… 305 episodes. The episode right now is The Last Temptation of Homer. Classic.
Well, back to the show!

I guess that excitement comes and goes like a tide. This is best demonstrated by my plans for the afternoon: Watch a movie, and maybe go to Starbucks. Jealous?
I haven’t been sleeping well, so I am on a totally messed up schedule. I was up at 4am this morning, and went back to sleep at around 7am, waking up again at around 9:30 am. Weird.
Anyway, there is a great nostalgia thing that was posted on Slashdot yesterday that I have to link to. The Tandy Computer Whiz Kids were a series of comic books that I used to love as a kid. They were advertisements for Radio Shack’s computer stuff, and they were given away free. Anyway, someone got their hands on a bunch of old issues and put them online. So if you want some additional Freduian fodder to figure me out, this is a great site to check out.
Well, lunch time. I think it’s going to hamburger patties.

Yosemite was so cool. I was completely awestruck by the beauty of the place. Everyone talks about how beautiful it is, but you really have to experience it yourself. On the drive in, I wrote the following:
I’m riding into the Sierra National Forest, and the road runs parallel to a beautiful river. I am surrounded on both sides by rock faces hundreds of feet high. The river is actually fairly deep, and there are spots where rapids form. As I look at all of this, I think “May I never look at the majesty of nature and not be amazed.” And then I realize that this is just the road into Yosemite
We arrived at Yosemite at about 4:00 pm, and the first thing I noticed was how amazingly cold it was. The official NPS site says it could get as cold as 34 degrees, but I was so sure that it wouldn’t be that cold. It was. Additionally, it was drizzling, and we briefly toyed with the idea of abandoning ship. We decided to check out the camp site anyway, and I’m glad I did. The rain had stopped, and due to the trees in the valley, the sites were barely wet. We stayed in the “Upper Pines” section of the camp grounds. It was a little odd, though, because the sites were so close together. We got the tent set up, and just enjoyed atmosphere.
MAN WAS IT COLD! OMG! Let’s not talk about. Instead, let’s realize that the next trip will include additional blankets.
I look at this as my first trial run. I want to go back closer to the summer, and actually backpack through the trails, and get off the beaten path a bit.

Wow, Yosemite was awesome! I am going to write up everything about the trip tomorrow, but in the interim, I have placed all of the pictures online (sans comments, for now). Take a look!
