One of the nice things that being self-employed offers me is the ability to choose what type of media is played in the background.
Anyway, my current media of choice is South Park. While watching my South Park episode collection, I came across the Quintuplets 2000 episode.
One of the scenes is of Kenny learning how to be an opera singer. Lesson 3 is singing Con Te Partir?. Anyway, this really piqued my interest.
Bottom line is that I am now totally hooked on Opera music. I’ve grown especially fond of Maria Callas.
The best part is that I can now say that South Park has introduced me to an amazing musical art form… how quaint.

Just a quick note to all of the Java nerds in the audience… JetBrains released IntelliJ IDEA 4.5 today.
An important note, though. The “JetBrains” managed to delete the entire plugin repository on their website and had no backup, so before you uninstall the previous version, be sure to move your plugins to the 4.5 directory.
So far, I’ve noticed improved MacOS X integration, and a vastly improved JSP editor. It’s a free upgrade for 4.0 owners, so get downloading!

By now you’ve probably seen the hilarious JibJab.com “Our Land” cartoon. If not, click the link… it rocks.
Anyway, the current owner of the original song’s copyright is threatening them with a lawsuit. But, as noted by the EFF, Guthrie (the original author) was staunchly anti-copyright.
I wonder how he would have viewed JibJab’s use of his song…

I know… I haven’t written here in ages. It’s just that there hasn’t been much going on.
Um… let’s see. I’m moving into my new apartment on Sunday. And on Tuesday, Jonathan & I are going to visit Level3’s Oakland Data Center, then heading to LinuxWorld for the day.
I know… my life is incredibly boring. I’ll try to take pictures on Sunday & Tuesday if I can find a camera to borrow… sigh.

The 9/11 commission released their final report today. You can buy it in bookstores, or you can download it free from the GPO Access website.
It is an interesting read. One of the most amazing things I thought was that the attack only cost around $300,000 - $400,000 to carry out…. an absolutely miniscule amount. That should be a source of concern for all of us.
Anyway, take a look at the executive summary if you don’t want to read 500 pages of documentation.

Yesterday, the international adoption community lost a true hero. John Harrah, founder of the Harrah Family Services international adoption agency. John has the unique distinction of being the first agency ever on the RainbowKids.com site.
John is survived by his wife Jackie, and his 3 children, Emily, Amy, Molly, all adopted from China.

It appears the government has chosen to scrap the controversial CAPPS II program, at least for now.
It is nice to know that, even in our cynical and jaded society, plain-old grassroots activism can still make a difference.

Quick Joke
A bus carrying only ugly people crashes into an oncoming truck, and everyone inside dies. They then get to meet their maker, and because of the grief they have experienced; He decides to grant them one wish each, before they enter Paradise.
They’re all lined up, and God asks the first one what the wish is. “I want to be gorgeous,” and so God snaps His fingers, and it is done.
The second one in line hears this and says “I want to be gorgeous too.”
Another snap of His fingers and the wish is granted.
This goes on for a while but when God is halfway down the line, the last guy in line starts laughing. When there are only ten people left, this guy is rolling on the floor, laughing.
Finally, God reaches this guy and asks him what his wish will be.
The guy calms down and says: ” Make ‘em all ugly again.”
Thanks to eBaum’s World for the joke (Link may not be work safe).

Everyone check out the newly redesigned BigMucho Studios site. Be sure to check out all of Ethan’s videos. My favorites are his PSA and the Aperture music video.
Additionally, my brother’s submission to the StockStock film festival was chosen as an official selection… which basically means it’s a finalist shown at the actual festival in Seattle… I may drive up there to see it depending on what my schedule is like.
