I cancelled my Friendster account today because they chose to fire an employee for remarks made on her personal blog. And I recommend you do the same.

This is completely unacceptable for a company that bases their business on “social networking”. Blogging is one of the most powerful social networking systems available, and for them make that kind of decision is completely brain-dead.

To cancel your Friendster account, simply click here and select “Cancel Account” at the top of the screen.

The Level 3 pictures are online!

I have been under an embargo regarding pictures of the equipment because we were keeping it at Jonathan’s house to set it up. Now that the equipment is in a super-secure data center, the embargo is lifted!

The facility is amazing, and the equipment is FAST! Anyway, enough chit-chat… click here to view the photos!

Oh, and I’ve included commentary as well, so enjoy!

Tara just sent me this absolutely adorable picture of her son, Cody. For those who don’t know, Tara’s entire family tree consists of Tennessee Vols fans…

I miss them so much… I am going to try to take a trip to Atlanta sometime before Christmas.

I am not a fan of travel days… yesterday was awful. I didn’t actually get home until 1:30 AM, having left New Orleans at 4 PM…

On the work front, we’re going to be setting up the new UltraCart cluster in Oakland on Friday… I am going to be taking LOTS of pictures so that everyone can see what a really high-end data center looks like… I am totally amazed with it. Plus, we’re going to have a field trip to Fry’s Electronics, which is the ultimate geek retail store.

Still no update on the huge set of pics from the wedding… I’ll put them online as soon as I get them.

What are we really defending our skies against?

No person should have to go through such an ordeal. The truth be told, there will never be another airplane as a weapon attack on American soil. Why?

Simple. I now know that if I sit back and obey the hijacker’s instructions, I am going to be killed, along with potentially thousands of people on the ground. I can guarantee that I will go down fighting. As will the hundreds of other passengers on the flight. And no matter what weapon the terrorist has, it cannot compete with dozens of patriotic Americans doing whatever it takes.

So why should a terminally ill patient be treated like a criminal simply for flying. If he and I were on the same hijacked plane, I would do whatever it takes to protect him and to subdue the terrorists.

THAT is patriotism. THAT is protecting the rights & liberties we enjoy as Americans.

My brother is officially married!

The wedding was simple and sweet, and the reception was absolutely dynamite. I am still waiting for the motherlode memory card, but until I get that one, here are some pictures taken by my mother.

Greetings from 30,000+ feet. It’s been a really interesting week… I think the part that is most traumatic is that Chloe ran away while I was filling up my car’s gas tank this morning. I didn’t realize that the carrier I was using had a back panel that opened up, and while I was inside taking care of some things, she climbed out of the opening and jumped outside of the rolled-down window.

I looked and looked, but I couldn’t find her. I left my phone number with the gas station attendant, but I doubt they’ll find her. The only hope offered is that the gas station was right next to a really nice subdivision, so maybe she’ll find a new family that can give her canned food every day.

Slightly less traumatic is the fact that I was ?fired? from Thirsty / The Gathering on Sunday. For those new to my blog, I have been the primary speaker for the Sunday PM singles service for about a year now. I was informed after the service Sunday that they wanted a full-time person to preach at that service. The part that stinks is that they had decided to fire me several weeks ago, but were waiting to tell me until the last minute so that I would continue to speak until the new speaker could get up to speed. That ticked me off. If they had come to me and said ?Hey, John. We think that the service needs a full-time pastor. Would you mind speaking until we are able to find someone and get them up to speed??, I would have agreed in a heartbeat. But the fact that they made these decisions in a clandestine way really was inappropriate. I wish them the best of luck, but they will be doing it without my participation.

On a more positive note, all of the hardware for the new UltraCart cluster arrived earlier this week. I’ll be sure to put up lots of photos once we get everything set up.

I can’t wait for Ethan’s wedding on Saturday… he has designated me DJ! Well, the reason for that is because I have a laptop with a LONG battery life. I don’t really have any say about the music, which is probably best.

Sigh… this Chloe thing sucks… if my landlord hadn’t been so adamant about the pet thing, this would have never happened.

I’ll write more later… right now I just need to take a nap or something.

Barry reflects on people past in his most recent blog posting. And as I thought about it, I realized how right he is.

I am constantly amazed at the variety of people we cross paths with, and how far removed the become. Some I keep in touch with on a daily basis, others are now aspiring movie stars who wouldn’t recognize me if they had a pictorial guide… the point is that some of our most memorable experiences occur with people who are just a single blink in the timeline of our lives…

Will people remember me?
