We’ll Return After These Messages…
I love commercials… on my own terms. Since I am a proud ReplayTV owner, I am fortunate to have a chance to ignore commercials completely.
Tonight, I watched a SNL special on E! that was all of their parody commercials, and I realized that I do enjoy some commercials. Some that are innovative, unique, or just plain make me laugh. Over the next few days, I’m going to share some of my favorites. And, since I have a server with 1000mbit/sec connectivity to the internet, I’m going to host them myself!
Tonight’s two entries are amazing. The first is the only ad I will be featuring that was actually broadcast during the Super Bowl. It’s from EDS, and was produced by the ad agency Hungry Man. Click here (10 MB MPEG file) to view this ad. I love this ad because it makes a clear, recognizable statement that sticks with the viewer.
Next comes a spec ad from Tim McAuliffe entitled ‘88 Dodge Aries. This ad makes fun of the overused techniques certain car companies employ far too often. This ad takes the stereotypical “Gen-X” advertising motif and turns it on its head. Click here to view this terrific ad.
Tomorrow I’ll show some ads from the very same companies I’ve lambasted in this post. They are not incompetent, but they do suffer from the fact that marketing will only go so far with today’s generation.

I am going to move into the loft I’ve previously discussed next month.
Additionally, I am trying out this weekend for FoodTV’s Next Food Star. I am going to present a show that caters to single people. It will be fun, informative, and at the very least, a distraction from all the rest of the crap I’ve been dealing with lately.
So start your engines!
I’ll post my application video online here when it is done.

Self-Censorship? Never.
But that doesn’t mean that I want everything in my life indexed by Google.
So, I’ve launched JohnA.org Unplugged. Mostly it will consist of things and thoughts I want to preserve, but I may not want the world to know.
My blog is my diary, and there are some things that I want to write about that I don’t want to be completely visible to everyone out there.
So, if you want a password, send me an e-mail and I’ll most likely add you, as long as you are not an HR manager or something.

We’ve A Name!
Drum roll…
Noah Paul Tew
Paul is the name of Lisa’s late father, and Noah is the name they’ve both loved since they found out the baby was a boy.

Your Disk Is Now Being Validated

As posted on Slashdot earlier this evening, a group of way too cool programmers have reverse-engineered the Quantum Link server protocols, and have begun to implement a new compatible server for the actual Commodore 64 client.
This is really neat for me, as Q-Link was my first online service. We subscribed at Christmas of 1985 when I was 8 years old. Seriously.
My goodness I spent some serious money on that. Anyhoo, nerd nostalgia mode off.

Not a week goes by…
…without me blogging about something.
So, let’s not talk about work. Jonathan version 2.0 still hasn’t arrived… he was due on Saturday, so that is a nice cloud of uncertainty hanging in the air.
Still don’t have the money to move into the loft. So I’m stuck in my dungeon for at least another 2 months.
Not sure about the high school reunion… I’ve not heard about room discounts, etc. so I am waiting to make my arrangements until I know whether or not I’ll actually be able to afford the trip.
Ethan & Family are living in Pensacola right now. His company is looking to set up a new office in Jackson, MS to replace the former New Orleans CBD based office.
I am considering going to work at the local brewpub a couple of nights a week to meet people and learn how to bartend.
All of my friends in Merced seem to be going through a tremendous amount of problems lately, and there is this general malaise that seems to be sweeping my entire social network.
I loved the Gilmore Girls premiere, and I loved how b****y Lorelai can be at times, but also how vulnerable she is portrayed. Oh, and I am greatly pleased that Logan is in the opening credit montage now.
My insomnia is getting worse and worse… I seem to be getting about 4 hours of sleep every night, with maybe an hour or two nap in the afternoon.
Well, that’s enough rambling for one morning. Back to listening to merchants tell me what a piece of crap I am personally.

Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi
Since I have assumed the responsibilities of editor-in-chief of RainbowKids, I have received literally hundreds of e-mail messages from readers offering their homes & hearts to those displaced by the hurricane.
I cannot respond to them all, so I wrote this article.
Thank you.
Is that enough? I’ve never been the editor-in-chief for a monthly with an audited circulation of 110,000 before.
What should I say? How should I respond?
Help me, Obi Wan-Kenobi. You’re my only hope!
