Trip Recap, Volume 1

October 26th, 2006

NOTE: My computer crashed while writing the previous version of this post, so this one will be more concise than I originally intended, as I can’t stand doing things twice.

First, I have placed day 2 pictures online. Click here to see the gallery!

Anyway, this is our busiest time of year, and we have all been working non-stop, and I decided that I needed a break. So, I planned a trip down to Anaheim to go to Disneyland, a place I’ve not visited since I was a toddler (Actually, I was born in The O.C., but that’s a story for another day)

Moving on… we begin on Saturday morning, where I boarded an Amtrak train to begin my trip. Here’s how Amtrak works out here. Basically, you take a train from Merced to Bakersfield. Once in Bakersfield, you take a bus to the next big hub. In my case, the target hub was Union Station in Los Angeles. After I arrived in LA, I took the train to Anaheim.

I made reservations at the Hampton Inn Garden Grove, which was not a bad hotel (though I did have issues… I’ll post the letter I wrote to their corporate offices later). The great thing about the hotel was that it was located right on the Anaheim Resort Transit bus line, so I was able to visit any place in Anaheim without needing to call a taxi.

Since I didn’t arrive until around 3:30pm, I decided to take a nap and not visit a park. At around 6:30pm, I caught the bus to Downtown Disney to see what was happening.

It was a Saturday night, so it was completely impossible for me to actually find a place to have dinner, so I decided to simply walk around. I went into Marceline’s Confectionary, and bought myself a pound of Goofy’s Taffy. Go me.

Anyhoo, I watched some bands, and when I got hungry, I chose to visit a non-Disney restaurant right outside of my hotel, where I enjoyed the best Chicken Parmesan I have ever eaten… good times.

I went to bed feeing refreshed and excited. It was what I needed for a travel day.

Tomorrow, I’ll post about my first day in the park.
