Woot sucks, I know…

John Anderson | April 28, 2008

I want to apologize to all (according to metrics including compete.com, there are around 800 of you) my readers. I’ve pitched Woot.com far too much. My official recommendation now is “avoid at all costs.” I have sent this message, and I will be sure to share their response here.

How do I cancel my account? After your delightful response to my comics e-mail, I’d rather not do business with you any longer. I have already cancelled my PayPal agreement, but I want to completely close my account so there are no more ties.

Given their attitudes towards previous customer service issues, I expect to hear nothing from them at best, and some kind of insult at worst. That being said, please stay tuned for said insult.

I miss this trip

John Anderson | April 27, 2008

This trip has so many memories. Both about the destination, but also the stops along the way. I remember haggling with motel managers for a cheap room, I remember enjoying a dinner at Cracker Barrel, and most of all, I remember visiting Bobbi at my alma mater, Emmanuel College.

I (heart) relevant advertising.

Especially when GMail shows the love…

GMail

I was just thinking to myself, “Self, while enjoying Beerfest on HD-DVD tomorrow evening, you should plan a trip to Qatar!” And then, BOOM! GMail delivers!

Stupid Internal Microsoft Vista SP1 Video

John Anderson | April 16, 2008

Good lord, even Microsoft’s viral videos drip of corporate. “See what’s on employee’s laptops!” without a single drop of irony.

And for the curious in our audience, should you choose to google the song’s main phrase of “Optimized Desktop”, you’ll find Microsoft entries at the top, again proving that only Microsoft can try to coin worthless phrases that nobody else adopts.

But wait, they innovate!!! Right???

Another reason to hate Merced…

The Valley Weather

Yes, that is a 47ยบ temperature change in a single day. That is wonderful for one’s health, not to mention makes everyone in town use both their central heating & air conditioner systems. Ugh.

Unnecessary 1080i

John Anderson | April 6, 2008

I love Hi-Def, but do we really need Drew Carey and The Price Is Right in 1080i? Anyway, here is a cool clip in all of its superfluous HDTV glory.

Forrest Gump

John Anderson | April 4, 2008

This movie defined my teenage years, even though I didn’t realize it at the time.

Tonight, I watched it thanks to Tivo HD, and the emotions it invoked reminded me of how awful my high school experience was.

I don’t feel comfortable about elaborating, but this movie defined the dysfunction that has defined my life, my pain, and my sorrow.

It’s a great movie, unless you have my experience with it. Were you in my shoes, you’d wish it would have never been committed to film.

Beta Test Much?

John Anderson | April 2, 2008

So, for those who are new to my blog, it may surprise you to learn that I have been in Microsoft’s pocket for more than a decade. Back when Windows 95 was code named “Microsoft Chicago with Win32s“, I was a beta tester. Sadly for everyone involved, I enrolled my young nephew to test the new OS, making him the youngest MSFT guinea pig in history. (Seriously… if you need proof, I have a video of him clicking the Start icon at 3 years old)

Sadly, he chose to play Humongous Entertainment games on said platform, so all I have to offer history is this screen cap of the greatest cut-scene ever introduced in a family adventure game. Unless you are willing to give mad props to the FatMan, who is still considered to be the Godfather of all modern computer game soundtracks. I’m sure he’s done stuff even more awesome, but I’ve not encountered it.

If you want to know how Marshall utilized the Microsoft Network, stay tuned!
